"POWER AND TRANSIENCE" | A throne made of iron parts and woods | 2007

The sculptor Andreas Kuhnlein regards the tree as an essential phenomenon and synonym for man.

From the wood of dead and uprooted trees he elicits an image of man that is characterised by vulnerability and mortality. Kuhnlein knows that, with its annual rings, a tree carries the passing of time within it just as much as a human face. He contrasts the reality of nature with a very independent artistic reality that releases powerful and deliberately rough images of people into our world. They make us ask: who are we, where do we come from, where are we going? Kuhnlein's wooden sculptures are created with the focal point on material, craft, his vision of form and the spontaneity of his inspirations. The sculptor fissures the wood with a chainsaw, but leaves the material in its natural consistency and structure.

Throughout his work from 1995 onwards, there is an almost mythical element of struggle, acquiescence, endurance, growth and assertiveness. On behalf of the artist, we invite you to become aware of your very own emotions when viewing this sculpture, without following a description that might conflict with the creative process of perception.
