Light sculpture "NORTH-NORTH-WEST" | Steel, glas | 2007

Friedrich Eigner has extracted a bridge of light from the Thumersbach lakeside to the opposite lakeside promenade of Zell am See with monumental power. The light as the essence of the sculpture "Nord-Nord-West" (North-North-West) resonates with the materials glass and metal in a warm tone and also creates a visual connection between the frequented lakeside promenade of Zell and the Thumersbach Sculpture Park.

Instead of language, light becomes the carrier of information here, although the artist also works with elements of narrative linguisticality and abstract water-associated motifs. The meta-level of the sculpture nestles closely to the form and subtly reveals its message in terms of content: the light, which was created in confrontation with the place, is also intended to confront the place. The gazes of the viewers on the opposite shore of the lake make the artwork complete. A universal level of communication that "speaks" independently of language. The sculpture is characterised by a constructive language of design and a clear arrangement of the material surfaces. It is intended, in the artist's meaning, to attune to the sensitive area of the park as a place of art, and in this way becomes an ambiguous metaphor of bridge-building.
